Emerging Toronto R&B songstress Jayd Ink makes her presence known with the three-track pleaser Catching Red Lights. Following her well-received buzz single "Queen St.", the singer has returned with the whole, pint-sized project. They say the best things come in threes—and Catching Red Lights is just that.

Midtempo warmer "Rollin" is a standout cut on the project. With soul baked into the two-minute cut, it commands the listener to hit the rewind button upon first listen.

Equally, the aforementioned "Queen St." contains the most robust vocal performance on Catching Red Lights. On the track, Jayd croons with pensive conviction—channelling her ‘90s R&B ancestors.

EP closer "Stuck On Earth" is also worthy of discussion. This track resembles a frosty Toronto cityscape as Jayd’s universe-pondering thoughts engulf the neo-soul baseplate. The song is reminiscent of Jhené Aiko, Ctrl-era SZA and Aaliyah, topped with Jayd’s unique brand of vocalised gold.

Catching Red Lights is about slowing down and learning to appreciate the moment. During the lockdown, I took the time to sit with myself, dive deeper into my thoughts, my fears and my overall well-being. It was a lot of reflection. These three songs are a combination of how I was feeling during that time,” said Jayd.

Residing firmly under the ten-minute mark, Catching Red Lights doesn’t overstay its welcome. With textured beats, strong vocal performances and charisma: Jayd Ink is the future of modern R&B.
